Msinga Municipality in Kwazulu Natal Was Established in December 2000

Msinga is composed of six Traditional Authority areas, namely, Qamu, Mchunu, Bomvu, Ngome, Mabaso and Mthembu.

The Municipality is in the central part of the District Council area, sharing boundaries with Nkandla to the east, Umvoti to the south and uThukela District to the south-west.

The deadlock with traditional leadership is a tough challenge for the new municipality, and needs to be resolved nationally in terms of powers and functions.

The Zulu people people love their traditional beer , prepared by women. They also used to and still do today, drink the traditional beer after victory over their enemies, like the Zulu dawn .

The Tugela, Buffalo and Sundays rivers flow through the area. Thus the municipal area is located largely in deep gorges, which effectively isolates it.

The municipal area is accessible via the R33, linking it with Dundee, Ladysmith, Pietermaritzburg, Kranskop and Weenen. The community access roads require attention.

Strategic river crossings are needed to provide access for remote communities. Two roads have been constructed at Gede and Nkobongweni, but there is still a vast backlog.
