‘Ulundi’ Means a High Place in The KwaZulu Natal Province

In 1873, King Cetshwayo built a new royal kraal on the plain near the site of his father’s kraal and called it Ondini although to the British it was known as Ulundi.
The modern Ulundi lies on the site chosen for his capital by King Cetshwayo when he succeeded his father, King Mpande, in 1873 KwaZulu Natal.
Zululand witnessed one of the greatest challenges to the supremacy of the once mighty British Empire during the tragic but heroic days of the Anglo-Zulu War. Ulundi was the scene of the final throes of this war in 1879, after which it fell under British rule. Zulu clan
Today this town near the mythological ‘Valley of the Kings’ is multi-cultural and rich in symbolism, tradition and the fascinating culture of the people who call it home.
