The history of Kwazulu Natal ... Find out about the wars that occurred in kwaZulu

The Zulus always went to war either to fight with themselves or with other Zulu tribes. At times there were 3 tribes of Zulus fighting the same war and in many cases they fought for a land.

Shakas first major battle was against Zwide of the Ndwadwe the battle of Gqokli Hill, in Shakas territory.

Shaka won the battle and from that day the Ndwadwe remained main enemies from then on Shaka always planned the next attack for them.

The increased military force led to more and more clans being incorporated into Shakas empire especially women and children and when these boys grew to the age of six they were trained to join the older army and go to war. Umvoti KwaZulu Natal is the Zulu Name For The Municipality & River

War Against the Voortrekkers

Shaka was killed by his half brother in 1828 and his successor Dingane with the help from Umhlangana and his Induna known as advisor Mbopa, Shaka was killed before he could test his strategies to dominate against the Voortrekkers and British forces, but his successor Dingane, had a great opportunity to do so. The Zulus were the few African people who managed to defeat the British army.

The Boers defeated Dingane, however his successors were able to do attempts to conquer them.

Zulu Dawn (1979)

In 1879 the British Empire alarmed the threat of the Zulus in Africa, they invaded the Zululand led by Lord Chelmsford with their superior firepower they camped at the foot of Isandlwana not knowing that it is on the other side of the 25,000 strong Zulu army.
